Everything done properly and ringtone works EXCEPT it cuts out about 5 times in the 22 seconds. It will briefly pause and then pick it back up. I have done it on 2 different songs and get the same result. I am on the 3gs phone, does this make a difference?

Seems I have similar probs to all. I might be missing something as I dont see where the ringtone was placed after it is created.

Plus, when I right click back on the music file, I get a msg: I can only make ringtones from music purchased from itunes store.

What am I doing wrong

I seem to be having the same problem most people here are having…iTunes will not add the file to the ringtones folder.

Any ideas why that is happening?

Hello,

You need to make the file extension visible first.

If you are using Windows XP, please unhide the extension by following the steps below：

1. Open “My Computer”
2. Click the “Tools” menu
3. Go to “Folder Options…”
4. Switch to the “View” tab
5. untick the “Hide extensions for known file types”

Hi,

Same problem at Cath a couple posts above. I have iTunes 9.0.2.
I have the clip on desktop, right click on properties, but unable to change the extension?

In the General tab next to “Type of file” I can see the file extension “.m4a” but I can’t edit it?
Cath states extension was hidden…how do I unhide it?

I have changed the file name itself on the desktop just adding .m4r but upon going to properties file read “xxx.m4r.m4a”

What am I missing?

Same problem. Shows up in library, will play from library but will not transfer to be synced.

Same problem here……got the ext changed to .mr4, then double clicked and the file goes to the “music library” in iTunes….can not get it to move over to the “Ringtones library”. It’s 23 seconds long and shows up in the music library as Ringtone under “type”!

Once I’ve changed the extension, I can play in the regular “Music” section of the iTunes library, but it doesn’t appear in the “Ringtones” (in the left hand taskbar). What am I doing wrong? Thanks! :)

Hi there, I am having the same problem as #3 above. All steps followed but the renamed file just wld not go to the ringtone folder but stays with music (under library). This is despite extension changed and original shortened file in iTunes deleted. Any advice pls?

Created a 27 second long ringtone and downloaded to the iphone. After I associated it with a contact, it still plays the default ringtone upon call. When I am assigning the new ringtone I am able to select and listen to the new custom ringtone, but it wouldn’t play when associated with a contact.

I have painstakingly done each step a dozen times in the new 8.2 and everytime it puts the file in the regular music library. I’ve even manually moved the file on my hard drive to the ringtone folder, but when I click that iTunes moves it to the music library. What the heck is happening and what do I do now?
